Cardiff’s Iconic Winter Wonderland returns tonight (Thursday 9 November 2017 – Sunday 7 January 2018) offering an undercover Admiral ice rink, authentic bierkeller, alpine village and funfair!
Last night the Welsh Mummy Blogs family were invited to attend a special preview of this years Winter Wonderland.
As we entered we were met by the delightful smell of warm roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and sausages. Yay! The Christmas season has finally arrived!
The boys could not contain their excitement (Dad included) as we walked around the festively decorated wonderland. Ice skating, music, food and a funfair what more could you want!
After having a walk around we muscled up the courage to go on the Giant Wheel. I must admit I was a little scared but the boys begged for me to ride with them. Up high we could see the City Centre beneath us, the view was amazing and it took my mind off the fact that I was up so high!
After the wheel the boys wanted to have a go on the rides in the Fun Fair. With many child friendly rides to choose from the boys were spoilt for choice! Harrison (aged 3) really enjoyed the little merry-go-round as it had a mini Double Decker bus with Toy Story characters on it.
Ethan was a fan of the Fun House, we walked around it 3 times!
Dad really liked the Bumper Cars and I enjoyed the Santa Sleigh Ride that shot out foam which looked like snow.
We then took to the Ice. It was Harrison’s first time Ice Skating; I was worried that his feet would be to small for the skates but they had special skates for little feet.
After the Ice Skating we had some fresh hot doughnuts and a sit down in the festive bar. The atmosphere was amazing, everyone looked happy as they sipped a mug of warm Mulled Wine. The music was not overpowering, the bar was very relaxing.
We finished our evening with a German sausage roll cooked on a traditional swing grill…Yummy!
Such a fantastic start to the festive season. We highly recommend Cardiff Winter Wonderland this year!
The Admiral Ice Rink
The Admiral Ice Rink will run from Thursday 9 November 2017 – Sunday 7 January 2018. This year will see the return of the clear span roof to keep skaters dry, and allow sparkling views of City Hall and the night sky.
This year, they have included relaxed accessibility sessions, at which music will be played at low level, lighting will be static, and the capacity of the rink will be reduced to allow those who may need additional support to enjoy the facility. They have also included a disabled viewing platform and enhanced signage, and site accessibility for 2017/2018.
Returning for 2017 the Alpine Village is the popular catering area at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland.
Enjoy some ‘Apres Skate’ at the Bierkeller Bar to sample a heart warming Gluhwein or refreshing Beer.
Authentic chalet units will serve delicious treats including German sausages cooked on a traditional swing grill and freshly made crepes.
