Cardiff Winter Wonderland 2019 – What you can expect!

On Thursday we were invited to the press night of Cardiff Winter Wonderland 2019 ‘#AD #Gifted

Cardiff Winter Wonderland is back for 2019. Its bigger and better than ever before! From 8th November 2019 til 5th January 2020, you can attend the ultimate winter experience. Expect plenty of ice skating, fun fair attractions, food and drink, and festive cheer!

As we entered the Winter Wonderland our eyes were met with the lights of the fairground attractions. Our nose was met with the smell of delicious street food and sweets! The boys looked amazed, the rides were calling to us, so it wasn’t long before the kids were off on the rides.

Ethan’s favorite ride was a ‘Barrel of Laughs’ a ride that spins you around and the floor drops which leaves you stuck to the wall. Harry’s favorite was the ‘fun house’ and ‘house of mirrors.’

After the rides I took a look around, the revamp was amazing.

There are more rides than last year and the Admiral ice skating ring is now under a roof so you can enjoy skating in any weather. They have also added an Alpine ice trail, a one of a kind in the UK. The 250m long ice trail is open air and really lets you see the whole site without taking off your skates.

For younger children wanting to go on the ice you can hire a penguin. These can only be booked online when booking ice skating tickets. Penguins cost £5.00 per session. Please be aware, that users of the penguins have to be below 4ft. There is a cloakroom, this costs £2.00 per item. Unfortunately the cloakroom is for skaters only.

The minimum age for skating is 3 years old, and anyone under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a paying adult on the ice. The adult can wear either skates or ice grips which are available for a £5.00 refundable deposit.

Ice Skating prices:
Adult – £12.00
Child – £10.00
Student – £10.00
Family – £36.00

We didn’t get to go on the ice this year. I am having an RA flare at the moment and was in to much pain to ice skate.

After a walk around we decided to get some food. There was not much available for a gluten free diet at Le Grill but the hot dogs looked tasty. Instead, we bought some sweets and had a glass of mulled wine in Sur La Piste. The 2 storey bar holds up to 400 hundred guests.

The bar is beautifully decorated with Christmas textiles and throws. There are beautiful Christmas trees on the second floor and a large window that offers amazing views of the Winter Wonderland. Sur La Piste is very welcoming, we loved relaxing in the cosy booth whilst listening to the live music outside.

Once warmed up we had a look at the brand new Ferris Wheel, Sky Wheel. It is huge!! The new wheel has fully accessible carriages. We did think about taking a ride but Welsh Daddy was scared! We decided not to go on. Instead we had another go on the rides and bought some marshmallows to toast on the open fire.

We had an amazing night, 3 hours went by really fast! We could have stayed all night, there was so much going on. I highly recommend a visit to Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland, it was the perfect start to Christmas!
