Children’s book reviews are written with my 5 year old son.
Thank you mum, a new book! James and the Birthday Balloon by Nicola J. Rowley.
I am really looking forward to reading this book because me and Harry (my little brother) love birthday parties mum.
The cover of this book is fun, it makes me smile, balloons are my favourite, I like to bring them home after a party.
James and the Birthday Balloon is a story about a boy named James who gets an invite to his best friend Ruby’s birthday party. James is really excited he gets an invite, I know because he wakes up all smiling and because everyone gets happy when they go to a party, right?!
At the party James and Ruby have lots of fun. They drink home-made lemonade, play games and eat lots of yummy party food. They also see a balloon artist who blows up REALLY REALLY big balloons. James has a blue balloon and Ruby has a red one.
Ruby and James love the balloons, they run around the garden with them. The balloon man tells them to hold the balloons tight but ruby is having so much fun she lets go! That can happen you see, Harry did the same before with his balloon, he let go the other week and now I think the balloon is in space, or London!
Ruby is very upset, she looks up to the sky to see where it has gone. Not looking where she is going, ruby trips over the overgrown roots of an Oak tree.
Has Ruby broke her leg? Will she ever get her balloon back?

This book is fantastic, both my sons enjoyed it. The illustrations are lovely. It’s a feel good story of a friendly, caring boy named James. The story will have both parent and child smiling.
