Open Air Theatre Festival, Pre-Theatre Suppers at No.10 – Quality food at a great price!

Last night my husband and I enjoyed a night without the kids (this is a rare thing!)

We attended a pre-theatre supper at No 10 (formally Jolyons) a beautiful boutique hotel on Cathedral Road, Cardiff before heading off to watch the Vicar of Dibley at the Cardiff Open Air Theatre festival.

The hotel offers luxury and sophistication and it is situated only a stone’s throw from the festival site.

The hotel is under new ownership and management.

Well known hotelier Hugh Hilary along with a small group of investors are the new owners of this beautiful boutique hotel. Hugh has previously held the position of General Manager with Park Hotel and more recently General Manager of the Park Plaza Hotel, Cardiff. Also hailing from the Park Plaza Hotel is No.10’s current General Manager, Jordan Lewis. Suffice to say that a high pedigree of new ownership and management can be expected from No.10.

As we entered the beautiful boutique hotel, we were greeted by the friendly Milena Kubanska who showed us to our table. As we walked to our table I couldn’t help but notice the stunning decor and delightful artwork that was on display.

Pre-Theatre Supper

Choose from either a 2-course for £15.50, or 3-course for £18.50 dinner when booking your theatre tickets. You can book tickets by clicking HERE

Pre-theatre supper start times are 6.30pm.

To start we ordered the No.10 Prawn Cocktail,  prawn cocktail is a firm favourite of mine so I was looking forward to see how it would be presented here at No.10.

I was not disappointed, the presentation of the starter was suburb. A lot of thought, care and passion was clear to be seen.

Now my favourite part…the taste! My mouth was met with a creamy, smooth texture of the sauce, the prawns were juicy and fresh and with a touch of lemon it really brought out the slight spice of the paprika.

For our main course we ordered an 8oz Sirloin Steak, Grilled Mushroom, Skinny Fries and Peppercorn Sauce. I ordered my steak well done, my husband ordered a medium rare. When our main arrived we were both impressed with the presentation and that our steak was cooked to our personal perfection. The skinny fries were cooked beautifully, they had a slight sea salt taste and a crisp outer.  The steak itself was a superior cut. It was flavoursome,  juicy, succulent and luscious.

I was so delightfully satisfied that I did not try the puddings on offer…maybe next time!

I was most impressed with the overall service we received. The waiters of the evening were dressed well with a smart appearance, Cordial & Hospitable. I liked that they had a Profound knowledge of the menu and that they were observant & attentive. As soon as my water glass was empty the lovely waiter would refill it.

Another thing that I noted was how clean the cutlery, plates and glasses were. There is nothing worse than a dirty glass! I love to see a venue with polished glasses and cutlery.

After our meal we headed out of the back entrance which takes you to the main entrance of the Open Air Theatre Festival.

So if you are heading to the Open Air Theatre Festival this year I highly recommend a pre-theatre supper. You will not be disappointed!

No.10 will be offering pre-theatre suppers for the duration of the Festival from 6.00pm every evening.
