(AD) Cardiff Winter Wonderland 2018 – What to Expect!!

We were kindly invited to Winter Wonderland this year. We enjoyed complimentary ice skating, ride tokens and food.

On Monday evening, we wrapped up warm and headed for Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland.

We met up with my sister and brother in law to enjoy this truly magical evening.

As soon as we entered Winter Wonderland the boys went wild!! They were amazed by the sights and sounds of Christmas.

Pulling at my arm, the boys wanted to go on the ice.

Our skate was booked for 17.15. We showed our ticket and then collected our skates.

Skate hire is included in the cost, however, a £5 returnable deposit is required for toddler skates (they go over the shoe)

As the boys are not the best skaters we decided to hire a skating aid. The skating aids are £5 to hire which is non refundable.

The skating rink looked magical, it was lit up like a Christmas tree! When I looked up, the lights were like a blanket of stars, very festive.

The rink has a clear span roof to keep skaters dry and it allows sparkling views of the City Hall and night sky.

The rink itself was fun to skate around, my youngest didn’t like the skating aid much, he preferred to hold my hand.

We didn’t stay on the ice long as the boys wanted to go on the rides.

The rink was quiet which was good for me as my anxiety was pretty bad this evening.

After our skating we took a walk around the rides. The boys wanted to go on Santa’s sleigh ride.

Ethan was being daring so went on a ride on his own. Not sure what the ride was called but I know it made him giggle loads and made his tummy go over!

Welsh Daddy, my eldest and I went on a ride together. It was much faster than it looked, I’m glad we had food after and not before haha!!

I was a bit gutted that the 90M Tower was not in use.

The tower is to replace the giant wheel this year and I really wanted to see it in use! (Nope, I wouldn’t have gone on it if it was working hahaha!)

We were all really hungry so made our way to a food van in the food area. The food area had choices galore.

Traditional bratwurst sausages, burgers, chips, sweet and savoury crepes, and a variety of traditional sweet treats.

Welsh Daddy ordered a cheese burger and chips. I had a chicken burger.

The boys had a £5 meal deal – chicken nuggets, chips and a drink.

We paid for the chips and children’s meal deal.

We ate our food in the cosy ‘Sur La Piste’ bar.

There was plenty of seating available upstairs and down.

We sat in a comfy booth. The ambience in the lodge was amazing! I felt as though I was in a little ski lodge in the French Alps!

The food was really tasty but if your watching your spending I would recommend eating before.

After our food we went on a few more rides. My youngest loved the Santa’s train ride!

We had a look at some stalls before heading home and bought some homemade fudge.

The whole experience was fantastic. I feel our visit was the perfect start to Christmas!!

Winter Wonderland is open now and until 6 January 2019
